Something we can all do

Although we all may not own or manage land, there is something we can all do to enhance the sustainability of our existence on this beautiful planet. Simple changes in our daily life can have a major influence on the overall impact we have as individuals on this planet.

My family and I have taken steps to make simple changes which has lowered our impact on the planet by reducing the waste we generate as a family. For over a year I have been weighing the garbage and recycling that our family produces and making changes where possible to reduce such waste. Our four person family produces approximately an average of 0.75 kg of garbage and 3.75 kg of recycling per month for all four of us.

How do we do this?

Quite easily. We do not buy anything wrapped in excessive plastic. We make a lot of our own toys for our child. We make our own clothes and we also make most of our food from basic food ingredients so the packaging on food bought is minimal. We also compost all of our food scraps and all of our own human waste, all of which is eventually recycled back into the garden.

It is all really simple and easy once your have an efficient system for it! In the end you get high quality toys for your kids, great clothes for your family and healthy soil to grow a garden in.
