Catching a ride

It has been a while since I posted something new. It is amazing how time flies when you are doing a PhD. So I thought I would put up this cute picture of this Mountain Brush-tail Possum catching a ride on it’s mom’s back. This was one of it’s last rides, as in the next couple of nights it was passing again following behind on foot! It does look like it is getting a bit big for it!IMG_0285

Lamington crayfish

I was walking through the forest with my daughter yesterday to look at some of the cascading water flowing in the creek as a result of the heavy rains over the last few days. We were in subtropical rainforest over 300 m above sea level and to my surprise we spotted a large blue and white crayfish submerged in water under a large boulder! Unfortunately we did not have a camera with us however I was able identify it as a Lamington crayfish (Euastacus sulcatus). Quite an interesting looking creature. I don’t think I will go exploring without my camera again! Luckily, we went back a couple of months later and seen a couple more and managed to get a good picture of this amazing creature!P1100831 (Medium)
